Alois A. Chmela, a distinguished professor at Queensboro Community College, passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on May 6, 1937, in Malacky, Slovakia, Alois was a man of remarkable intellect and a passion for education that inspired countless students throughout his career.
Alois was highly educated, holding dual master’s degrees from an Ivy League institution. His rigorous academic background equipped him with the tools to engage in discussions across an impressive array of subjects, reflecting his deeply studious nature. He is survived by his sister, Carol Kosky, and his two nephews: Frank Mackay, Gordon Mackay, and niece Kristin Mackay. Alois was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Dorothy, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life.
