C. John Simon

April 3, 1934 — September 1, 2016

C. John Simon, age 82, passed away at his home in Riverhead, NY on Thursday, September 1, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley Griffing Smith Simon, of Riverhead, NY, beloved children Peter J. Simon, of Danbury, CT, Nan Simon, of Monmouth Beach, NJ, Ellen Simon, of West Bath, ME, step daughter Lynne Wheeler, of Morton, NY, cherished grandfather of Christopher Catanese, Corey Catanese, Rebecca Simon and step grandson David Wheeler, dear brother to Robert K. Simon, of Reidsville, NC, Virginia Simon Koonts, of Charleston, SC and Elizabeth Simon Mead, of Peconic, NY.
John was a graduate of Southold High School and attended Villanova University. He served as a member of Southold Fire Department and on the Southold School Board. He founded and built John Simon Produce – a successful produce company with offices in three states. He was an avid skier, golfer, and world traveler. Despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease for many years, he maintained a positive attitude and continued to live a full and active life until in recent months the disease proved too much for his body and will to withstand. By the family he has left behind, he is remembered as being caring, kind, and always supportive. Even in his last days his concern was how he could help his loved ones. We’ll miss him greatly.
