Carmela M. Basilice, of Medford, New York and formerly of Dix Hills, New York has passed away at the age of 97. She was born on October 15, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York and was a dedicated teacher for over 30 years at Signal Hill Elementary in the Half Hollow Hills School District.
Carmela's passion for education and her unwavering commitment to her students made her a beloved figure within the school community. Her Master's Degree in Education served as a solid foundation for her illustrious career, where she inspired generations of young minds with her knowledge.
Carmela is predeceased by her spouse, Patrick J. Basilice, and is survived by her son Joseph Basilice and his wife Lisa; daughter Linda Hoerrner and her husband Augie; late brother Anthony Messina and his wife Claire; sister Ursula Buono and her husband Michael; and, brother Stephen Messina and his wife Janice. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Patrick, Lucianna, Melissa, Diana, Tina, A J, Petra, and Paul as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
To honor Carmela's life, visitation services will be held on January 2, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM at Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY.
A Mass in memory of Carmela will be conducted on January 3, 2024, 9:45 AM at St. Matthew RC Church, 35 North Service Road, Dix Hills, NY. Following the Mass, a final farewell will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY.
