Catherine R. Salegna

Catherine Rose Salegna of Plainview, NY, died on July 23, 2022, at the age of 71, surrounded by her loving family.
Cathy was born in Queens, NY, to Louis and Filomena Salegna. She graduated from York College with a
degree in Computer Programming. Although she had planned for a career as a math teacher,
she quickly realized her calling was entrepreneurship. She opened her first business, Liberty Card & Gift Shoppe,
in Ozone Park in the early 1970s. She later founded a realty company, JM Funding & Realty.
Most recently, she pursued her passion for flipping houses and investing in real estate.
Cathy was a devout Catholic who gave her time and talent to St. Matthew’s Church in Dix Hills, as well as
Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church in Deer Park. She loved to travel, especially to Italy, with family and friends.
She cared deeply for those around her, even those she had just met. Her home was always open to friends and
family to celebrate, eat and have a good time. She was inspired to live her life like the great Frankn Sinatra song, "My Way."
Cathy is preceded in death by the love of her life, James Maceiko, whom she married on July 25,
1992, as well as her parents, twin grandchildren, Jonathan and Elena Maceiko, and brother-in-law,
Cornelius Berry. She is survived by her sons, James Maceiko, Jr. and Michael Maceiko, along with his wife, Meghan,
and her grandchildren, Daniel and Kathryn. She also leaves behind her brother, Louis Salegna and his wife,
Mary, and her sister, Mary Berry, as well as Gina Espinoza, who is a treasured part of her family after decades
of friendship. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, July 28, at 11:15 at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church.
