Chestean H. Howard, a devoted husband, father, and respected member of his community, passed away on December 14, 2024, at the age of 78, at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Rockville Centre, New York. Born on January 29, 1946, in Ewing, New Jersey to James E. Howard and Lula Lee Tucker. He grew up in a family of 14 brothers and sisters where he learned at an early age the importance of love and mercy. His life was marked by compassion, dedication, service, and genuine love for his family.
Chestean served honorably in the Army, stationed in Germany, where he demonstrated a commitment to his country that would remain a point of pride throughout his life. After his military service, he devoted many years to his career as a UPS driver, serving the Long Beach Community where he was honored by the Chamber of Commerce, a role that allowed him to connect with countless individuals in that community and build lasting friendships. The time there was a pivotal point which catapulted him into a commitment to ensure the beautification of his own community in North Babylon, NY.
Chestean was a long standing member of The Belmont Lake Civic Association North and West Babylon. He held several positions on the board, most notable was his work on the Beautification Committee and The Sewer Committee which lobbied for the infrastructure of a sewer system for the Belmont Lake Area in North Babylon.
Chestean is survived by his loving wife, Hattie Howard; his beloved daughter and son: Monique (Roberto) and Chesten (Nerita),and his grandchildren: Caleigh, Anoush, Sarkis, Jayden and Blake. Together, they will carry on his legacy of kindness, strength, and dedication to edify the human spirit.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on December 18, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY. A prayer service will be at 6:30 PM, allowing those who loved Chestean to come together to honor his memory and share cherished moments spent with him.
Chestean H. Howard will be remembered not just for the roles he played in life, but for the indelible mark he left in the hearts of those who knew him. His warmth, humor, and genuine spirit will be profoundly missed. May he rest in peace.
