Clarence Aubrey Hicks, son of George and Lena Hicks, was born on May 10, 1941 in Powhatan, Virginia and departed this life on January 26, 2018 at Peconic Bay Medical Center.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at the Little Zion Baptist Church. He attended school in Powhatan County.
On November 14, 1958, Clarence married the love of his life, Irene Virginia Hughes of Powhatan, Virginia. To this union, three children were born: Vanessa Gail, Melody Lynette, and Brenda Irene.
Clarence worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory and retired as a Mason in April 1999 after 30 years of dedicated service. Over the years, Clarence enjoyed teaching martial arts, taking his granddaughters fishing and had a passion for old tractors, cars, gardening and painting. He touched so many lives and was so beloved and respected by family, friends and the community.
Clarence was predeceased by both parents, three brothers, and two sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 59 years, Irene Hicks; beloved children, Vanessa Hicks-Clayton of Stone Mountain, GA, Melody Hicks-Grant of Upperco, MD and Brenda Hicks of Chesterfield, VA; one devoted son-in-law, George Grant of Upperco, MD; three grandchildren, Brianna Pitchford, Shelby Clayton and Kaysey Clayton; one brother, George (Bobby) Hicks of Phenix City, AL; three sister-in-laws, Selestine Brown of Riverhead, NY, Cile Hicks of Stone Mountain, GA, and Margaret Hicks of Phenix, AL; one brother-in-law, Anthony Brown of Riverhead, NY; one aunt, Bertha Gray of Powhatan, VA; devoted cousin and friend, Theo Gray and Jerry Hobson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly.
