Curtis James King died suddenly at his home in North Babylon NY on November 21st, 2016. He was born on May 14th, 1952 to Kathryn Paul and Curtis G. King of Washington Heights NY. Curtis attended grammar school at St. Margaret’s of Cortona in Riverdale NY and went on to high school at Fordham Prep where he was a standout athlete on the track team. After graduating the Prep in 1970, he went on to attend Fordham University under a partial track scholarship. Curtis was always proud and nostalgic of the time he spent on the Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx and he remained a loyal Ram. In 1975, Curtis joined the Port Authority Police Department where he had a distinguished and decorated 40 year career. As an officer of the PAPD he was recognized for assisting in the recovery effort following the 9/11 terror attacks, for his role in helping to avert the hijacking of a commercial airliner, and for his work collaborating with the NYPD curtailing a large scale jewelry fencing operation in Queens among countless other achievements. He retired as a Detective in April 2015. His friends and family remember him as a fisherman, avid sports fan, dog lover, crime fighter and soup connoisseur. Most of all he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is, and will be, deeply missed. Curtis leaves behind his wife of 26 years Mary E. King, his children Christopher, Kerry and Jamie, grandchildren Gavriella, Mazie and Nico, his dog Roxy and countless friends, partners, fans and admirers. You were a hero to all who knew you and many who did not. May you now rest in peace.
