Daniel Alfred Palumbo, 84, passed away peacefully on July 27th, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Daniel was born March 16th, 1939 to Daniel and Josephine Palumbo in Coney Island, Brooklyn. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. In 1958, while home on leave, Danny met Anna, when set up on a blind date, and their beautiful journey of life began together. While in the army, Danny would often pick up extra KP hours to earn money to use towards visiting his then girlfriend, and soon to be wife.
Dan and Anna were married for 62 wonderful years and went on to have three children: Maryanna, Daniel Jr., and Michael. Daniel was a devoted father and husband, who would work hard to provide for his family. Anna and Danny went on to welcome 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who were his pride and joy, just as he was theirs.
After working in various construction jobs throughout his life, he eventually settled down with Lilco, where he continued to work for over 25 years. When asked what his favorite job in his life was, Danny stated Lilco, as it was where he made the most friends; lifelong friends that would remain to this day.
Daniel was a very simple man, whose best days were spent alongside his family, and of course his animals, enjoying the small things in life. He loved to spend summer days with his wife Anna down by the docks, eating bagels and crabbing. He was an animal lover throughout his life, and loved sitting on the porch, throwing bread to all the birds who would visit him regularly. His family would often joke that he was like St. Francis, as all animals seemed to gravitate towards his comforting and loving spirit. Everyone always referred to Daniel as a “gentle giant,” and he lived up to that title in every way.
Daniel touched so many people throughout his lifetime, including all the nurses, doctors and staff during many hospital stays and doctors’ visits. To his family, Danny was known as a jokester who loved putting a smile on others' faces. Even on his final days, he would crack silly jokes or make funny faces to his family and hospital staff to give them a chuckle. Throughout everything he had been through, he never once lost his sense of humor, or desire to make others laugh. The family was often told Dan was their favorite patient.
Daniel was predeceased by his son Daniel Jr, his parents Daniel and Josephine, his mother in-law Susie, who was truly like a mother to him, and his siblings, Jeannette, Marie, and Dominick. We find comfort in knowing he is reunited with so many loved ones, especially his best friend, his son Danny Jr. Daniel is survived by his wife Anna, his children Maryanna Diaz (& husband Arthur), Michael Palumbo (& wife Erika), his daughter in-law Elizabeth Palumbo, his sister Theresa, and his brother Joseph Palumbo (& wife Theresa), and all his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His quiet presence will be greatly missed by all.
