Deacon Robert Obie Sr.

Robert Obie Sr. of Riverhead died Nov. 5, 2019 at Hampton Care Center in Southampton. He was 89 years old.

Born in Newark, New Jersey on April 27, 1930, he was the son of Sylvester and WillaMae (Breckenridge) Obie.

A high school graduate, he was employed as a foreman in the Riverhead Sewer District from 1971 through 2002.
He was honored by the Riverhead Labor-Management Committee as Employee of the Quarter 1991 for the third quarter of 1991. He retired as a foreman in the Riverhead Sewer District in December 2002,

He was a deacon, trustee and usher For First Baptist Church in Riverhead.

Predeceased by his son Robert Jr. and daughter Cynthia, he is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Taylor), daughters Karen Johnson, Anita and Patricia, and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will take place at First Baptist Church in Riverhead on Monday Nov. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a service at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 12 ;at at 11 a.m.

Burial will take place following the service at Washington Memorial Park in Mount Sinai.

In lieu of flowers the Obie Family would appreciate if donations could be made in Deacon Obie's name to the Family Community Life Center.
