Doris Raynor Hennessey of Clermont Florida, formerly of Riverhead, New York passed away peacefully at her home on December 23rd, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was 84 years old.
Born August 1, 1934, in Riverhead, NY to Harold C. and Katherine R. King Robinson, Doris was a graduate of Riverhead High School. She married Lawrence Raynor of Hampton Bays, NY in 1955 and they were married for over 35 years. Together, they raised their five children in Riverhead while she worked, and retired from, Suffolk OTB as branch manager. Following Lawrence’s passing in 1991, Doris relocated to Clermont, Florida and married Thomas Hennessey of Miller Place, NY in 1997.
Doris’s greatest achievement was her beautiful family. Forever kind and loving, she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was naturally funny and charismatic, making all around her feel at ease. During her retirement, Doris enjoyed playing golf, traveling and visiting Disney. A talented pianist and singer, Doris sang in Sweet Adeline’s Chorus from 1964 to 1996, traveling and performing in different cities and venues. She was a beacon of light, both inwardly and outwardly beautiful.
Doris is predeceased by her parents, husbands, brothers Harold, John, Eugene, and Richard, and sister Joan Haynes.
She is survived by her brother, Donald (Elaine) Robinson and sister, Ann Pavlakis; daughters, Deborah (Arlton) Baird, Susan (John) Rendall, Sherry (David) Steele, Cathy (James) Doucette and son, Lawrence (Moira) Raynor, Jr.; grandchildren Aria Prata, Jarred Grzybowski, David (Grelia) Steele, Kristin (Carlos) Payano, Kyle (Jennifer) Steele, Christopher (Rachel) Rendall, Corey Rendall, Amelia Doucette, Noah Doucette, Olivia Raynor, Jacob Raynor, and Paige Raynor; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, December 27th, from 7pm to 9pm at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. A prayer service will be held 11am at Tuthill-Mangano, followed by interment services at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Riverhead.
