The blessings that we have been lucky enough to share throughout our family are something that can never be repaid nor appreciated enough.
Until you are a parent, one can never begin to understand nor appreciate what a mother’s life involves. You really have to stop and really take that slow stroll down memory lane in order to fathom what mom’s life has been and how enriched we all have been for it.
When you consider that as a 32 year old with six kids between the ages of two and twelve, who usually worked outside the home, cared for a dying mother and still cooked, cleaned, laundered, got us off to school and church all the while maintaining her love affair with our dad, well, that is truly amazing.
Raising three boys who had the ability to find mischief (and worse) throughout the entire Borough of Queens and beyond must have been draining. Being asked by the owners of the bowling alley she waitressed at to take over (and manage successfully) all of their food and beverage operations and then coming home to care for three little girls under the age of six, geez, there aren’t words. The heartache of more than a year of back and forth to the hospital for our grandmother who was dying painfully of leukemia, no doubt would have shattered most. Still, she was Mom, always there for us.
It is astounding to consider the attention, discipline, love, positive reinforcement and joy we were showered with, while all of this went on, ultimately followed by the birth of number # 7, a downs syndrome baby, Matthew Peter, who brought so much love to this family in his too, too short a life.
Regardless of where in the country they had to travel to, she would never miss any event that involved her kids, grandkids and while still physically able to her great grandkids. The strength, fortitude, integrity, courage and love that mom shared day in, day out is something that we can only wish to emulate to any degree, knowing that we will never be able to repay her.
To Mom, the most extraordinary woman that we have ever known, we wish and pray for the greatest blessings, joy and gratitude, throughout each and every day. We love you Mom, more than anyone can ever say.
