Dorothy E. Mazzarella, born on September 28, 1952, in Rockville Centre, NY, passed away on September 2, 2024, in Shirley, NY surrounded by her loved ones. Dorothy was a dedicated educator, having devoted her career to shaping the lives of young students as a Cosmetology teacher at Eastern Suffolk BOCES in Riverhead, NY. Her commitment to her profession reflected her passion for helping others learn and thrive.
Dorothy was a loving daughter to her late parents, William and Louise Joseph, and cherished her family deeply. She is survived by her two sons, Marc J. Mazzarella and his wife Shelly, and Paul L. Mazzarella and his wife Melissa. Dorothy took immense joy in being a grandmother to Madison, Morgan, Caden, Emma, Jake, Luke, and Grace, who brought her great pride and happiness throughout her life. Her sister Patricia Alfano and brothers Richard and Donald Joseph, along with her extended family and friends, will also carry her memory forward. Dorothy's beloved husband, Louis J. Mazzarella, predeceased her, leaving behind a legacy of love that she continued to nurture in their family.
Visitation services will be held at the Mangano Family Funeral Home in Middle Island, NY, on Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and then again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM each day. A Mass in her honor will take place on September 9, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Center Moriches, NY, starting at 10:45 AM. Following the service, family and friends will proceed to Calverton National Cemetery, where Dorothy will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Louis.
Dorothy E. Mazzarella will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her dedication to her students and family, and the love she spread to those around her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
