Baiting Hollow resident Dr. Barbara Y. Hulse died on November 27 at home. She was 93 years of age. Barbara was born in New Rochelle, NY on November 6th 1922 to Walter Halsey and Lola (Robinson) Young. She grew up in New Rochelle, then attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where she received her BA degree. She continued her education at Albany Medical College in New York, where she was awarded her Doctor of Medicine Degree. She was a family practitioner for a year at the Young homestead in Aquebogue, Long Island, NY. Dr. Young married Irving Hallock Hulse, a prominent potato and peach farmer in 1951 and moved into the old Hulse homestead in Baiting Hollow. She was pre-deceased by her husband in 1998.She is survived by a sister, Doris Y. Obrien of New Rochelle, a brother David Halsey Young of Sable River, Nova Scotia; 3 nephews and 4 nieces. Barbara was an active member of Baiting Hollow Congregational Church for many years where she served as a Sunday school teacher, clerk, choir member and member of the woman's clubs. Visitation for Barbara will be on Monday, November 30th, 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm at Tuthill - Mangano Funeral Home, 406 East Main St., Riverhead, NY 11901. Graveside service will be on Tuesday, December 1, 11:00 am in Baiting Hollow Cemetery, located behind Baiting Hollow Congregational Church, 2416 Sound Ave., Baiting Hollow, NY 11933. Interment will also be in the cemetery.
