Eduardo Icaza, of North Babylon NY, Formerly of Astoria, NY, known affectionately as "Pepe," peacefully passed away on August 13, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born on October 3, 1929, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to his late parents, Raymundo and Haydee.
Eduardo achieved many milestones in his life, including a successful career as a shipping clerk, and some of his proudest moments of being a professional soccer player in Ecuador. He was a man of simple pleasures and profound love.
Eduardo adored his wife of 65 years, Blanca Icaza, and cherished his daughters, Blanche Vasquez, Haydee C. Lillio, Gladys Guzman, and Adriana Nieves. His family was his greatest joy, and he found fulfillment in the love they shared.
Eduardo's memory will forever be cherished by his ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy into his life. His legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family will live on in their hearts.
His jovial nature and love for laughter earned him the reputation of a joker among those who knew him. Eduardo had a soft spoken and stress-free demeanor that endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. He had a fondness for reading newspapers and looked forward to his annual trips back to Ecuador.
In his leisure time, Eduardo found solace in the simple pleasures of life. He loved indulging in pound cakes and hot chocolate while passionately cheering on his favorite teams, the Knicks and the Mets. Eduardo also had a penchant for savoring steak, chicken fried rice, and chicken wings. He could often be seen sporting his beloved kangol hats and caps, each adding a touch of his unique style.
The services to honor and celebrate Eduardo's life will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 2 PM to 4:30 PM then again from 7 PM to 9:30 PM at Mangano Family Funeral Home in Deer Park, New York. A Mass will follow on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Saints Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding light for those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
