Edward T. Fergus of Dix Hills, NY passed away on February 2, 2018 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Dorothy for 58 years, devoted father of AnneMarie (Brian) Rayhill, Maureen Sheehan, Allison (Mark) Smosky of Darien, CT and the late Edward T. (Linda) Fergus, Jr. of Norwalk, CT. Cherished grandfather of Shannon, Tom, Alex, Meaghan, Emmet, Harry, Will, Teddy and Molly. Treasured brother of Anne (Tom) Knepell and the late Mary Reicherz. Dear lifelong friend of Sr. Ann Gray, DW.
Ed was born in 1936, in Manhattan. He grew up in Queens and attended Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. Ed graduated Fordham University in 1958, where he met Dot, served in the Military Police of the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg, and earned his J.D. from Fordham Law School in 1962. Following graduation, Ed began a career in the finance industry at Arthur Anderson & Co., specializing in taxation. He held various positions at Bache & Co. and at Prudential Securities, where he was recognized for 25 years of service. Ed served as President of the Wall Street Tax Association, and was an active member of the Securities Industry Association before retiring in the mid-90s.
Ed's first love was his family, followed closely by travel and saltwater. He and Dot moved the family to Dix Hills in 1967 and he quickly found a hobby in fishing the waters of Long Island Sound and off Montauk with his son and grandsons. As a member of the Great South Bay Power Squadron, he and Dot enjoyed many days on the water, extended trips, and the company of great friends. Later in life, Ed returned to his childhood hobby of racing pigeons with the North Long Island Racing Pigeon Club and the birds of their Half Hollow Loft brought out his competitive spirit.
Ed is remembered for his unending dedication to Dot, his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren.
