Fred A. Rivera

Fred Rivera of Commack, NY, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020 at Huntington Hospital, NY. Fred was born on October 12, 1935 in Mangaldan, Pangasinan, Philippines. He graduated from the Far Eastern University (FEU), Manila Philippines, majoring in Accounting in 1957. Fred immigrated with his family to the United States in 1977. As they rebuild their family life in the U.S., Fred worked in various positions in his long and varied career as a CPA but the one he loved to tell stories about to his grandchildren was his work as comptroller with the Museum of Arts and Design (formerly American Craft Museum), New York, NY.

Predeceased by his wife, Fred was married to Mercedes (Calpo) for 59 years. Fred lived a colorful life with many adventurous travels around the world. Fred and Mercy travelled throughout Asia, Europe and the United States. Fred recently travelled to the Middle East, South America and the Bahamas. Fred was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Rosary Council #4428. Fred and Mercy were longtime parishioner of St. Cyril and Methodius Church of Deer Park, NY were they actively volunteered as lectors, communion ministers and church coordinators. Fred enjoyed the simple things in life and the many grand family gatherings. He is survived by his daughters, Georgina (Carmine) and Gisella (Kenny), sons Melanio (Amy), Joseph-Mervyn (Brian) and Michael (Rebecca) and many grandsons, granddaughters and great grandchildren.
In-lieu of flowers, we would like friends and family to donate to American Lung Association. At this time, the family has decided to have a memorial service to commemorate Fred at a later date.
