Georgette H. Prigal

1965 — 2025

Dix Hills

Georgette H. Prigal, beloved wife, loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt, passed away on March 19, 2025, in her Dix Hills home, with family at her side. Georgette was born on November 22, 1965, in Minot, North Dakota to Louise and Air Force Captain Howard Lane. After Howard’s death in 1971, Georgette, her mother and brother Greg lived in Iowa and Minnesota. In 1978, when her mother married David Horton, she was adopted by David and became part of a wonderful larger family including siblings Kris, Crayne and Paul, as well as many new cousins, aunts and uncles.

The family moved to Sudbury, Massachusetts in 1979. Georgette graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School in 1984. She then attended Boston University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration.

While studying in college, Georgette met her future husband, Steven. They became best friends and wed in February of 2000, on a beautiful, snowy evening. Their daughter Mariette was born in 2002. Their relationship was a true partnership, built on mutual respect, with unwavering support for each other through all the events of their lives as a family. Challenged by family illnesses she displayed incredible fortitude, a cast iron will and a determination to create a warm and loving home.

During Georgette’s professional career she spent time in the Boston and New York financial sector with Eaton Vance, Paine Webber and Bisys Fund Services before becoming the CFO of Brake Service, Inc. She was a talented financial and business strategist. She became a mentor to many family members and industry professionals with her practical and well-reasoned advice.

Through the years, the extended family would spend wonderful summers together on Lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro, NH. Georgette was extremely close to her mother Louise and had many trips to France to be with the wonderful relatives on Louise’s side of the family.

As well as her husband Steven and daughter Mariette, Georgette is survived by her brothers Greg (Sandwich, MA), Crayne and Paul Horton (both in Olympia, WA) and her sister Kris Bursey (Rogers, MN).

As we celebrate her life, we remember a dynamic person; full of purpose and passionate about her family and the people around her. We will always remember her strength, kindness, and compassion. She has given those who knew her a legacy of love and determination. May her memory be a blessing and may we remember her for the rest of our lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.
