Helen Thebold, a beloved member of the Middle Island community and Teacher's Aide for the Longwood School District, passed away on January 28, 2024, in Middle Island, NY. She was born on June 17, 1930, in Queens, NY to loving parents, Michael and Beatrice Lewandowski.
Helen dedicated her career to helping students with special needs in Longwood School District. Her commitment to education touched the lives of countless students and their families throughout her tenure. She was known for her patience, compassion, and unwavering support for her students. Beyond her professional achievements, Helen excelled at various roles and responsibilities within her community. She actively participated in the Parent-Teacher Association as a devoted mother who tirelessly worked towards improving the quality of education for all children. Helen also served on the school board and played an instrumental role in shaping educational policies. Her dedication extended to writing articles for the school newspaper and working at the library to promote literacy and a love for reading among young minds.
A woman of deep faith, Helen served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis of Cabrini R.C. Church. Her devotion to her religious duties brought comfort and solace to those she served throughout the years.
On April 1, 1948 (April Fool's Day), Helen exchanged vows with the love of her life, John Thebold, at St. Marks. Their marriage was built on a foundation of love, respect, and enduring companionship that spanned the decades.
In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by her children, Jessica Thebold, Deborah Thebold, John Thebold, Scott Thebold, and Heather Pittarese. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lara, Scott Jr., Faitra, Juliana, James, Sabrina, Vanessa and Colin. Helen recently welcomed the arrival of her great-granddaughter Gabriella, who brought immense joy into her life. Helen's warm and nurturing presence will be deeply missed by all those who knew her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for education that will continue to inspire others for generations to come.
To pay tribute to Helen's remarkable life and celebrate her numerous contributions to the community, visitation services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. The first visitation will take place at Mangano Family Funeral Home of Middle Island from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. A second visitation will follow from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Additionally, a Firematic service in honor of Helen is scheduled at the funeral home on the same day at 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Helen's life will be held on January 31, 2024, at Saint Frances Cabrini RC Church in Coram, beginning at 9:30AM. Following the mass will be burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram, NY.
Helen Thebold will forever remain in our hearts as a shining example of compassion, kindness, and selflessness. Her love for teaching and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others will continue to inspire us all. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that her influence has touched so many lives.
