Janet May Shaw

Janet May Shaw, resident of Riverhead, passed away quietly on May 22, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones at East End Hospice Care. Born in Manhattan on September 6, 1936, Janet lived a long and fulfilling life, inspiring everyone she encountered with her kindness.

As a sales clerk for Macy's department store of Lake Grove, Janet helped customers for over two decades. Known for her exceptional customer service and an infectious smile that could light up the room, Janet quickly became an integral part of the Macy's team as well as the community. Her helpfulness and relentless urge to go the extra mile made her stand out as a remarkable sales clerk.

Janet is survived by her four children: Janet (Bob) Krieger, Richard (Judy) Shaw, Kathleen (Kevin) Chisolm, and Rhonda (Edward) Kornberg; twelve grandchildren: Jason, Jessica, Jennifer, Bobby, Evan, Bobbi Lee, Michael, Grace, Lauren, Caleb, Jamie and Jeanette; sixteen great-grandchildren: Jason Jr., Jack, Margo, Erik, Mo, Georgia ,Winston, Vivian ,Harrison, Austin, Alyssa, Blake, Grant, Nora, Seth, Ethan. She was a loving mother who always prioritized creating a safe home environment for her children. Her caring nature extended beyond immediate family to friends and coworkers.


Services honoring Janet's life will be held on May 23-24. The visitation will take place at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home located at 406 E Main St Riverhead NY 11901 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM on May 23 followed by another visitation from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. On May 24, the funeral service will take place at Church of the Redeemer located at 13225 Old Sound Ave Mattituck NY 11952 starting at 10:00 AM. Following this ceremony, Janet will be laid to rest at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery located at 490 Northville Turnpike Riverhead NY 11901.

Janet May Shaw will always be remembered for her unwavering kindness, devotion to serving others, and her strong spirit. Her unwavering optimism in tough times inspired all who had the pleasure to meet her. She has touched the lives of many and will be sincerely missed by all who knew her.
