Jay Cullen McQuillen

July 27, 1939 — January 15, 2025

Jay Cullen McQuillen, born on July 27, 1939, peacefully passed away on January 15, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, dedication, and compassion that touched many lives throughout his remarkable journey.

Jay was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. In pursuit of his dreams, Jay demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit that led him to start his own air freight company, which he grew into a million-dollar business. His professional acumen extended beyond the aviation industry, as he also played a significant role as an investor and manager at the esteemed Cafe Pucine in Manhattan. His unwavering work ethic and strategic insight made him a respected figure in the business community.

Jay's life was deeply intertwined with his faith. After completing Bible School in Texas, he was first ordained as an evangelist and later became an ordained minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through the authority of the Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle, which he proudly considered his home church. His commitment to service led him to South Africa, where he was ordained by Hope of Africa, enabling him to freely minister and share his faith with others.

An avid sportsman, Jay held a green belt in Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate. Though a stroke limited his ability to continue his pursuit of achieving a black belt, his indomitable spirit shone through as he attended an international tournament in Portugal to cheer on his teammates.

Throughout his life, Jay extended his love for sports into his community. He coached multiple sports teams in Huntington and served as a referee for students with disabilities, embodying a spirit of encouragement and mentorship.

He attained his Bachelor degrees in Leadership and Ministry Management from Antioch Bible College, further solidifying his commitment to both education and his faith.

Jay's dedication was matched only by his love for family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan McQuillen, and their four children: Jared, who is married to Laura, Joel, Justine, and Jessica and son-in-law Danny. His family expanded with adoring grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Jenna and her husband David, the late Jared, Zachary, Julia, Jace, Max, and Stella, along with beautiful great-grandchildren Scarlett, Luka, Rowan, and Leo. Additionally, he is remembered by his siblings Tony and his wife Betty, Laurie, and Chris and his wife Alba.

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a visitation on March 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park, New York. A prayer service will be held during visitation, pending time.

As we remember Jay, let us celebrate a life lived with purpose, a heart full of service, and an unyielding commitment to family and faith. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
