Joan Burke, a beloved and adored member of the St. Matthew community, passed away on January 4, 2024. She was born on October 14, 1934, in Manhattan, NY to James and Christina Hewitt. Joan's vibrant personality and kind nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Billy, and her siblings, John and Rose Hewitt, Bill and Maureen Takes, Bernadette Tracy, and Paddy and Breeda Connolly. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family and friends including her children - William (Linda) Burke, Christine (Phil) Pursino, James Burke, Kathleen Burke (Fred), and Joan (Michael) Flynn. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Billy (Sean), Kevin (Mitch), Maybe, Philip (Katie), Courtney, Nick, Sean (Jenny), Ryan (Kelly), Brendan, Matthew, Jenna, and Brianna.
While Joan achieved many accomplishments throughout her life, one of her proudest achievements was undoubtedly the love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, PJ, Cooper, and Aubriella. Joan absolutely cherished each one of them and dedicated herself to their well-being and happiness. She showered them with love, support, and guidance, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today.
In mourning the loss of Joan Burke but celebrating the beautiful life she led, friends and family are invited to attend two services that will honor her memory. The visitation will take place on January 8, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mangano Family Funeral Home located at 1701 Deer Pk Ave in Deer Park, NY.
The Mass in memorial for Joan will be held on January 9, 2024 at Saint Matthew in Dix Hills, NY. The service will commence at 10:45 AM with an end time of 11:45 AM. The address for Saint Matthew is 35 North Service Rd.
Joan Burke's impact on those around her will never be forgotten. Her warmth, love, and kindness were contagious, brightening the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to Joan, let us carry her spirit in our hearts and continue to spread the love and compassion she exemplified throughout her life.
