John O. Giordano, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a cherished family member and friend, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, in Riverhead, New York. He was born on March 8, 1948, in Mola Di Bari, Italy, and raised in Argentina, where he developed a deep love for soccer, dancing, and the vibrant rhythms of Latin music. His early years were marked by a strong appreciation for family, tradition, and good food.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Concetta Giordano, with whom he shared a life filled with love, laughter, and the joys of family. He was the proud father of two daughters, Christina Giordano and Lisa (Allen) Wenturine, and a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Christian and Hayden. He was also a beloved "brother", uncle, cousin, and dear friend to many, always ready with honest advice, or a helping hand. His family was the foundation of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francesco and Candida Giordano, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness—principles he carried throughout his life.
John was a devoted caretaker, always putting the needs of his loved ones before his own. He lovingly cared for his mother-in-law, his mother, and most recently, his wife, demonstrating a quiet strength and unwavering commitment to family. With his keen perception and straightforward honesty, he had a way of cutting through pretense and offering the advice people truly needed to hear.
A talented chef, John delighted family and friends with his extraordinary Italian and Latin cooking. From his rich fettuccine Alfredo and legendary Sunday sauce and meatballs to his perfectly crafted empanadas, he filled his home with warmth, tradition, and the irresistible aromas of his kitchen. He also strove to recreate his father’s beloved focaccia recipe, working tirelessly to match its perfect texture and flavor—a tribute to the culinary heritage he cherished. No one ever left his table hungry, and every meal was served with love.
John’s passion for the water was undeniable. Whether diving, swimming, boating, or fishing, he was at home on the waves and shared his skills with those around him. He taught many how to fish and bait a hook, emphasizing patience and perseverance—and making sure they weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
John also had a gentle appreciation for nature, particularly birds. He made sure they were well cared for, religiously providing seeds and fresh water, finding peace in watching them gather and enjoy their feast.
John will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and ability to bring people together. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation services will be held on March 6, 2025, at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead, NY, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. A Mass celebrating his life will take place at St. Isidore's RC Church in Riverhead on March 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
