John Peter Leddy was born in Astoria, Queens NY in 1932 to John
V. and Della Leddy. He graduated from Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in Brooklyn, NY in 1954 and entered the U.S. Naval Reserves’ Officers’ Candidates School. Upon graduation in 1956, he served on the Destroyer ship the USS Moale, where he led the ship on patrol duty in the Atlantic, North Sea, Caribbean, and the Eastern Mediterranean during the Suez Crisis of 1956-57. He obtained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was later stationed in Long Island City, NY and obtained his law degree at night from Fordham University. In 1958, he married Maureen O’Neill. John spent the first half of his private career in the defense industry. In 1987, he started his own oil tank testing business, Pro-Test, Inc., which continues to this day under his son Thomas Leddy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maureen, his sister Marguerite Leddy Bosio and brother Donald Leddy, his children and in-laws: John J. Leddy, MD and Adriana Alvarez, MD, Mary Jo Leddy Volkert and George Volkert, James F. Leddy and Kristen McLaughlin, Thomas Leddy and Valentina Castro, Jennifer Leddy Poma and Eric Poma, PhD, ten grandchildren and two Vietnamese foster grandchildren. He loved us all.
