Joseph Callahan, a retired Corrections Officer in Ossining, New York, passed away on November 9, 2023. Born on October 10, 1932, in Covington, Louisiana, Joseph was known for his unwavering commitment to serving and protecting his community. Joseph was born to the Late John and the Late Martha Callahan.

After completing his high school education, Joseph embarked on a career path that would profoundly impact the lives of many. He joined the U.S. Army and served with great distinction. Joseph's time in the military honed his sense of discipline and instilled in him a deep sense of duty.

Following his honorable service, Joseph pursued a career in corrections. For several years, he dedicated himself to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of both staff and inmates at the correctional facility in Ossining. In addition to working as a corrections officer, Joseph went on to work as a bus driver for We Transport and Town Bus as his second job. He drove for the company from 1995 all the way up until 2012. Known for his integrity and fairness, Joseph earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joseph was a beloved member of his community. His kind-hearted nature and willingness to lend a helping hand left an indelible impact on those who knew him. Joseph will be remembered as a pillar of strength and compassion.

In addition to his impressive career achievements, Joseph cherished his family dearly. Joseph was married to Barbara Leak of Cheraw, South Carolina in 1961, until her passing in 2008. Together they created a loving home. He was the proud father of Jason Callahan (his wife, Wendy), who mourns the loss of an incredible father and friend. The bond they shared was one built on mutual love and support. Joseph was a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren, Julius and Jillian. Joseph also leaves behind his loving Sister-in-Law, Josephine Callahan, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph takes with him fond memories from precious moments spent with his loved ones. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled but serves as a reminder to hold close those we cherish most.

Visitation services for Joseph Callahan will take place on November 17, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Baptist Church located at 300 Albany Avenue in Amityville, NY. A funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Joseph will be laid to rest with military honors at Calverton National Cemetery, located at 210 Princeton Boulevard in Calverton, NY, in a solemn interment ceremony starting at 1:30 PM.

Joseph leaves behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and selflessness. He will be remembered as a devoted father, a loyal friend, and an exceptional corrections officer. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of strength for all those who knew and loved him.
