Joseph Michael Corcoran, loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and friend, passed away surrounded by his family on August 26, 2022. He was 85.
Born in the South Bronx in 1937, the son of Bridget and Joseph Corcoran, he grew up one of six children: four brothers (Michael, Jackie, Jimmy, Matthew) and one sister (Eileen). He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959. Months after returning from the army, he married the love of his life, Eileen McArdle and they raised five beautiful children in Dix Hills, New York; Joe (Karen), Eileen (Rob), Dan (Barbara), John (Nikki) and Tim (Molly).
Joe worked as a salesman for Caterpillar and John Deere for more than 40 years. In retirement, he spent his time as a starter at Heartland Golf for 10 years.
Joe found his life passion as “Pops” for his eleven grandchildren – Robert (Alice), Tyler (Jess), Lydia (Trevor), Brendan (Alanna), Ryan, Lauren (Alex), Hannah, Jack, Meghan, McKenzie, and Gavin and two great-granddaughters, Merryn and Freya — as well as Santa Claus for thousands of lucky children, including his own family and even some dogs and cats!
In his early Santa years, he volunteered at Sagamore Hills Children's Hospital, local nursing homes, St. Matthew’s Senior Group, elementary schools, and the Knights of Columbus. Later, he was “the” Santa Claus at stores and malls across the tri-state area, including Bloomingdales, Saks 5th Avenue, and Roosevelt Field Mall.
Joe was a snowbird and often traveled down with his wife Eileen to Oriole Gardens III in Margate, Florida surrounded by over 100 of his closest friends from the South Bronx. He was the proud Grand Marshall of the 2015 Margate St Patrick’s Day Parade and a fixture of this community. You could always find him in the pool and living life to the fullest.
Please join us in celebrating his life.
