Joseph W. Czulada Sr. of Calverton, formerly of Riverhead, died Sept. 28, 2018 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 75 years old.
He was born in Port Jefferson on Feb. 1, 1943, the son of Sophie (Stachacz) and Joseph Czulada.
Czulada served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Valley Forge from 1961 to 1964. He worked as a postal supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service.
He married Rosemary Tagliareni on April 23, 1966 and they raised a family of five children in Riverhead.
Czulada was a member of the Riverhead Fire Department and an ex-captain of the Washington Engine Company No. 2. He was also a member of the Polish Town Civic Association and an original Polish Eagle.
He was a beer-barrel polka dancer, an avid woodworker and enjoyed casinos.
“Poppy” adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Predeceased by his daughter, Jill Marie, he is survived by his wife Roe sons, Joseph Jr. and John (Gina) and his daughter, Jamie (Jim) Delaney and by his five grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, Oct. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Tuthill Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at St. Isidore Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Isidore’s Church food pantry.
