Matthew was born April 7, 1943 in South Carolina to the late Clara and Matthew Alexander Sr. He was the oldest of five siblings who proceeded him in death: Edward, Stanley, Maryanne and Judy.

In 1963, he was married to the late Candace Williams.

On April 14, 1997, he joined in Holy Wedlock with Karin DeShore.

After working in various positions, Matthew was hired in 1968 by the Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC) and assigned as a Dietary Aide at Goldwater Hospital. The following year the HHC Emergency Medical Service trained him as an Emergency Medical Technician. He remained in his position after the Emergency Medical Service became part of the NYC Fire Department. After 34 years of service to the citizens of New York, Matthew retired on September 30, 2002.

Matthew’s true passion was fishing. He had fishing rods and equipment for every type of fish and fishing location. While on vacations, his fishing rods would travel with him, especially to Aruba, where he spent every February and March with his wife Karin. While in Aruba, they would watch every Carnival Parade, attend the Masquerade Ball and Valentines Day Dance.

Beloved husband and best friend to wife Karin of 23 years.

Loving father of children Denise, Danny, Charlie (deceased), Kisha, Ronnie, Arlene, Jason and Lee Ashley, and stepdaughters Naomi, Regina and Danielle.

Proud Grandfather to fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Fondly remembered by a host of family and good friends in America, Germany and Aruba.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
