MATTYE BELL STUBBS STREIT a native of Thomasville Alabama and a resident of Riverhead Long Island NY for over forty years went to “take her rest” on Friday March 26, 2021.
Mattye was born March 3, 1953 to the late Alfred and Ida Mae Stubbs. She was the seventh child of fifteen, and born the fifth of nine girls. She was preceded in death by four of her brothers, Clyde Stubbs, Willie L. White, Isaac James White, and Alfred Stubbs, Jr.
During her childhood years she was a member of the Air Mount CME Church, Thomasville Al. She later became a Jehovah’s Witnesses where she continue to serve faithfully along with her husband until her death.
Mattye Bell, as she was called by her friends and classmates was bold, courageous, fearless, smart and talent. She grew up loving the outdoors, loving life and being surrounded by family. She attended the Thomasville A.L. Martin City School where she excelled in all her studies. She later furthered her education at the Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, where she studied Business Management and nursing. She worked tirelessly for many years until her health failed, her favorite pastimes was attending her flower garden.
Mattye was united in Holy Matrimony to her husband, Mr. Barry Streit who preceded her in death on March 10, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memories her son Steven Stubbs Sr., her grandson Steven affectionately known as “Little Steve” of Long Island NY, and three step-children, Nathan, Sabrina and Tonya, her loving mother-in-law Mrs. Wanda Streit, two brother-in-law’s, Henry and Scott Streit. Also cherishing her memories are her siblings, a devoted sister whom she lived very close to for many years, Mary Hall West of Coram LI NY. Ida (Charlie) Jackson, Dothan AL, Mary Alice (Wilber) Todd Jackson, AL, Faire (Jimmy) Washington, Ruby Stubbs-Bridges, Harriet Stubbs- Robinson, and David Stubbs all of Thomasville AL. Willie Irene Stubbs, Douglasville GA, Margaret Stubbs Johns, Villa Rica GA. Yolanda White, Atlanta GA, and Raymond Shaw of Birmingham, AL, her devoted nieces, Mary Robyn Hall, Edna McLaurin (her children ,Gray, Kristina, and David). , Etta Hall, Alexis Downs, (her children John and Anthony), Lisa Hall,(her son Andrew) all of Long Island, NY, A host of nieces’ nephews that she loved dearly, other relatives and friends.
