Annunzia Sbarro

September 24, 1940 — September 11, 2024

Center Island, NY

Annunzia Sbarro, a cherished matriarch and beloved figure to many, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at Saint Francis Hospital. She was born on September 24, 1940, in Italy, and she graced this world with her loving presence for nearly 84 years.

A devoted wife, Annunzia shared her life with her husband of 61 years, Mario Sbarro, and together they built a family rooted in love and togetherness. Her nurturing spirit was evident in her relationships with her children—Carmela (John) Merendino, Gennaro (Patricia) Sbarro, Nancy Sbarro, Maria (Ingo) Kurth, and Stella (William) Vetter—who were all raised under her watchful and affectionate care. Nunzia took immense pride in her family, which blossomed to include 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with a 7th on the way.. Each of them carried a piece of her heart, and she dedicated herself to being a doting grandmother and great-grandmother, creating cherished memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

Annunzia was not just a mother; she was the heart of her family. Her personality was one of warmth and kindness, serving as a guiding light in the lives of those who had the pleasure to know her. As the matriarch, she cultivated an environment filled with love, laughter, and acceptance. Family gatherings were infused with her spirit, as she brought everyone together with her infectious smile and generous heart. Her proudest accomplishment was undeniably the large family she nurtured with dedication and unwavering support.

Devastatingly, she leaves behind the legacy of her parents, Alfonso and Annunziata Erardi, who preceded her in death. Though they are no longer with her, their influence remained a cornerstone for Annunzia throughout her life.

Visitation for Annunzia will be held at the Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, September 14 from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM and again on Sunday, September 15 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, followed by another visitation from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. A Mass to celebrate her life will take place at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in the Chapel, 93 Anstice St, Oyster Bay, NY, on September 16 at 11:30 AM, where family and friends will gather in remembrance of her beautiful life and the indelible mark she left on each of their hearts.

Annunzia Sbarro will be lovingly remembered—not only for her role as a mother, grandmother, and friend but also her ability to unite a family with love and compassion. Her legacy will forever echo in the lives she touched, and though she may be gone from this earth, her spirit will remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
