Nunzio James "Jim" Grella

On Friday October 9, 2020, Jim Grella, devoted husband of 53 years to Dorothy, beloved father of James, Jennifer, and Stephanie, and doting “Papa” to Caleb and Aidan, passed away at the age of 75.
Jim was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 4, 1945 to Frank and Mary Grella. He was the eldest of six children and was known as the “best big brother” to his 5 younger siblings, Janet, Frank, Maria, Ann, and Teresa.
Jim was a graduate of Jericho H.S., Nassau Community College, and Hofstra University where he earned a B.S. in Accounting. Jim earned his C.P.A. shortly thereafter.
Jim served in the army reserves and the National Guard for many years during the Vietnam war.
In 1973, his father passed away; Jim left his position at Arthur Anderson to take over his father’s accounting practice. Jim valued relationships- whether personal or professional- and the professional often became personal to him. He was a longtime trusted advisor and friend to many of his clients, treating everyone like family because to him they were.
Jim was a family man through and through, and his wife, children & grandchildren meant the world to him. He loved and was well loved by his siblings, and his 19 nieces and nephews.
Family and faith went hand in hand for Jim. He was a devoted Catholic who worshipped at St. Mathews church and he contributed to the church both financially, and through his volunteer efforts all of his adult life. Jim was a compassionate spirit with a great smile, a wonderful sense of humor and he found joy in making others smile and laugh along with him.
Jim was a long time and forever faithful NY Jets and Yankee fan. Many people thought Jim was a man of few words, but that was only true until you got him talking sports! He could always be found watching or listening to the game, which brought him great joy.
Jim loved vacationing in Florida and Southold with his extended family and friends.
He will be dearly missed.
