Rigoberto Chaves, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on September 7 2024, at the age of 87. Born on October 30, 1936, in Costa Rica, he carried the warmth and spirit of his homeland throughout his life.
Rigoberto dedicated nearly 40 years to his career at North Shore Hospital, where he was respected for his work ethic and commitment. Known for his sarcastic humor, he brought laughter and joy not only to his workplace but also to his cherished family. Rigoberto's greatest pride was his family; he consistently demonstrated his love and care, always being present for his grandkids to support, encourage, and share in their lives.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elidieth Chaves; his daughter Elidieth, who is married to Ken Stern, his son, Rodrigo Chaves, and his daughter Maureen, who is married to Jose Sanchez; as well as his grandchildren, Gabriella (Noah), Rebecca, and Diego. They will forever carry his lessons of hard work and dedication in their hearts.
Rigoberto is also remembered for his unwavering passion for soccer and his deep affection for his home country, Costa Rica. He was a big fan of the sport, sharing his enthusiasm with those around him, fostering connections through the shared love of the game.
He was preceded in death by his son, the late William Chaves, whose memory brings both a sense of loss and fond remembrance to the family.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, 3100 Hempstead Tpke, Levittown, NY 11756 on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Family and friends who wish to attend the mass are asked to meet directly at church by 10:45 AM.
