Robert Joseph Fettinger, born on October 13, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Stony Brook, New York. He leaves behind a legacy marked by his dedication to both his professional career and his family.
As an accomplished Architectural Engineer with Verizon in New York City, Robert contributed significantly to the field, utilizing his skills and insights to enhance the infrastructure of the city he loved. His profession was not merely a job for him; it was a passion that he instilled in those around him. Robert was a proud veteran, having served in the Navy from 1957 to 1960. His commitment to service continued through his involvement with the Knights of Columbus, where he engaged in community activities and supported charitable endeavors that reflected his strong values and dedication to helping others.
He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Fettinger; his children Karyn (Raymond) Vonderlieth and Joan (Michael) O'Grady; son Scott (Tracey) Fettinger; and cherished grandchildren Annmarie, Nikole, Caitlyn, and Haley. He was also a doting great-grandfather to Kaley and is remembered fondly by his sister, Marlene Aquanno. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Fettinger.
Visitation services will be held at Mangano Family Funeral Home of Middle Island in Middle Island, NY, on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The first session will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, followed by a later visitation from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. On Monday, February 24, 2025, a funeral mass will take place at Saint Frances Cabrini R.C. Church, pending time. Following the mass, family and friends will proceed to Calverton National Cemetery, where Robert will be laid to rest.
Robert Joseph Fettinger will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his unwavering love for his family and friends, his commitment to community service, and his warm spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
