Robert John Schmidt

November 24, 1937 — May 21, 2024

Fort Pierce, Florida

Robert John Schmidt, a dedicated veteran of the United States Navy, passed away at the age of 86 1/2 on May 21, 2024, at his home in Florida.  The half-year is significant because a month after his 75th birthday, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and given 6 months to live.  He showed them all.  He was never one to follow anyone else's rules and always did things his way.  He defied the odds for over 11 years.

Bob's legacy lives on in the hearts of his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Cindy Sloat, son-in-law Glenn Sloat, favorite Grandson, Brian Sloat, and son, James Schmidt, as well as his step-children, Jackie and Jeff Hughes, Stephanie and Steve Guzak, Linda Dehondt and their children.  He was predeceased by his two great loves, Liz Schmidt and Mary Guzak.

Bob's presence brought warmth and joy to those around him, and his memory will continue to be a source of comfort for all who knew him.

Bob will be buried Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY, in a ceremony with military honors.  The service will commence at 1:30 PM.  A Celebration of Life event will be held later this summer.

Bob Schmidt will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.  His unwavering love and dedication leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.  May he rest in peace knowing that he was truly loved and admired by many and will be greatly missed.
