Robert J. Sommer

Robert J. Sommer, born on May 16, 1942, in Masbeth, Queens to his parents Vincent and Christine Sommer, passed away on September 30, 2024. He lived a rich and fulfilling life, characterized by his unwavering love for family and passion for golf. Married for 37 years to his wife, Norma H. Sommer, Robert found joy in the simplest things, often stating that golf and his love for his wife were his two favorite aspects of life.

Throughout his life, Robert created cherished memories with his family and friends, who will always hold him dear in their hearts. He was a proud stepfather to Suzette Leverock and her husband John, Melissa Peppe, and Robert Mahr. Robert also had a special bond with his nephew, Nicholas, who, as his godson, generously donated a kidney, allowing Robert an additional 15 precious years of life. Robert leaves behind a loving legacy, including 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Vincent Sommer.

In recognition of Robert J. Sommer's life, a visitation will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Mangano Family Funeral Home located at 1701 Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, NY 11729. A prayer service will follow from 4:00 PM on the same day.

Robert's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his memory will forever be celebrated by family and friends who had the privilege of knowing him.
