Ronald T. Armstrong

Ronald T. Armstrong, 88, of Middle Island, passed away on November 27, 2019 at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY.

Ronald was born in New York, NY on July 25, 1931 to Theophilus Armstrong and Zeathea Cumberbatch. Ronald married Barbara J. Lynch, in Bronx, NY, on December 17, 1955. He graduated from Port Jefferson High School and the State University at Cortland with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education later earning his Master's degree at Adelphi University in Social Work. Ronald worked at one of the local psychiatric hospitals and then went on to work at United Cerebral Palsy(UCP), formally known as Suffolk Rehabilitation Center in Commack, NY. He also worked for the YMCA. From there he was hired in the Longwood School District setting up and establishing the Social Work Program. In addition, he supervised an internship program for social work interns at Longwood School District, eventually retiring in 1991. He also had a private social work practice. In his recent years, he worked in a dual partnership, husband and wife team for the Parent Leadership Initiative Program, sponsored by the Child Care Council of Suffolk County, NY. He lectured at Stony Brook University, in the School of Social Welfare, up until three years ago. He enjoyed working with people. He worked well with children as well as adults. He was an extremely quiet and caring person with an uncanny sense of humor.

Ronald served in the United States Army in the Hospital Unit, in Germany. As a child, he was part of the Fire Department, in Gordon Heights. He received the Bishop's Cross in 1992. He was a Eucharistic Minister, at St. Michael and All Angels, St Mark's, and St. James, He was on the vestry or Warden at St. Michael and All Angels and St. Mark's. Ronald received numerous awards, acknowledgements and recognition, from various community organizations. Ronald had personal interests as well. He was a passionate journal keeper, learned calligraphy and scribed inspirational sayings on handmade cards which he graced with beautiful photos taken by himself. He was a man with many talents and interests.

Ronald is predeceased by his parents, Theopholus and Zeathea Armstrong; and his sister, Zeathea (Eileen) Armstrong.

Ronald is survived by his beautiful and loving wife Barbara (Jean), three son's David, Timothy, and Philip; grandchildren Shaun, Branden, Kellee, Jessie and a great grandson Tayden; daughter-in-laws; JoAnn and Jacquelyn; other relatives and many friends to celebrate his life.
