Ruth Coyne

June 17, 1931 — September 11, 2024

Queens, New York

Ruth Coyne, beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at the age of 93. Born in Queens, NY, to the late Catherine and Edward Sullivan, she began a life that would be defined by her kindness, humor, creative talent, intelligence, and unwavering love for family. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, the late Thomas Coyne, who passed away in 1988. Their 33-year love story was one of deep connection, great laughter, passion for family, and mutual respect, which Ruth carried in her heart throughout her lifetime.

Ruth’s quiet wit, easy laughter, refined taste, and thoughtful counsel made her a great mother and valuable friend. Smart, kind, creative, and strong, Ruth inspired those around her with her positive outlook and ability to find joy and silliness in the moment. Her passion for fashion made Ruth the epitome of fashion, style, and grace, and she was often consulted for fashion tips by friends and family. Ruth’s love of literature, history, and the arts made her a challenging competitor at trivia games.

Ruth will be fondly remembered for her proudest accomplishment—her family. She was a welcoming and kind soul who poured her heart into every relationship, creating a loving home for her children and grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her son, Kevin, and his wife, Camille Coyne; her daughter, Catherine Coyne, and her husband, Roderick O'Neil; her daughter, Regina Coyne-Hopkins, and her husband, Richard Hopkins; along with five cherished grandchildren: Rachel Coyne and her husband Dom Delledera; Thomas Coyne and his fiancé Arielle Gonzales; Daniel Coyne, Colin Hopkins, and Sean Hopkins; and one great-grandchild, Carmelo Coyne. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who often refer to her as “my favorite Aunt”.

A visitation to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM at Mangano Family Funeral Home located at 1701 Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, NY 11729. A Mass will be celebrated in her honor on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:15 AM at Saints Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church, 125 Half Hollow Road, Deer Park, NY 11729. A burial at Pinelawn Memorial Park to follow immediately after the funeral mass.

As we remember Ruth, we honor her legacy of kindness and love, which will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her.
