Stephen J. Berté

Stephen J. Berte passed away on November 20, 2020 at the age of 89. Beloved husband to Joan (nee:Gundersen). Loving father to Christine E. Paolillo, Stephen J. Berte, Jr., Daniel P. Berte, Jennifer J. Catalano, Robert F. Berte, Regina B. Longo, Mark E. Berte, Elaine M. Berte and The late Linda Berte. Cherished grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Stephen was married to the love of his life since 1951. They would have celebrated their 69th year anniversary this December, 2020
Together they raised 9 children.
Stephen held a Master’s degree with an additional 67 credits. He was a hard worker, sometimes working three jobs at one time to support his large family . All the while still going to school. He wore many hats; Bay Constable of Town of Babylon, Pharmaceutical Sales, Pharmacist assistant and his love, Teaching.
Stephen started his teaching career in North Babylon, ( his hometown) as a Biology teacher , then into teaching health. Constantly striving for more, he then became Department head of the Health department where he created the well received Community Health program .
And he kept on moving up to administration where he became the Assistant Superintendent. He ended he his career there. He spent his retired years enjoying and mentoring his own children and grandchildren, gardening and fishing. Never a dull moment. He is loved and will be sorely missed.
