Theresa Katherine Moysak (nee Cavalcante) passed away peacefully on July 8th, 2020, at the age of 77, after a courageous fight with Alzheimers, surrounded by her loving family.
Terri, as she was known to all, was born on December 18th, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Lena ( Lazio) Cavalcante. She is the oldest of her siblings Jack and Andre who predecease her.
She met her husband Thomas at a dance not long after her graduation from Garden City High School and they were married on September 28th, 1963. Together with their two children, Charisse and Thomas, they enjoyed life in Centereach, New York.
Terri was a devoted wife, caring and loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. This devotion was expressed through her bountiful cooking for family and friends. Her daughter Charisse notes that she will treasure the many holidays and events cooking and baking with her and learning all of her secrets !!
Her son Thomas remarked that, "She also had a blackbelt in shopping"; she was meticulous in her outings and her endurance was beyond her diminutive stature in search of just the right item for her loved ones. Terri was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. Her family and their happiness was her life's work, but Terri's true joy was the company of her 6 grandchildren.
Terri is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Thomas P. Moysak, who stood fearlessly by her side ,and lovingly cared for her throughout her fight; as well as her children; daughter , Charisse and her partner Larry; her son Thomas J. his wife and her “ daughter” in-law, Jane, and of course her six grandchildren: Gianna and Salvatore, and Marlaina, Nicole, Thomas and Charles. Her memory will also continue through her many friends and beloved cousins. She will be especially missed by Anne “Babe” and Paul DiPietro, Fran and Mike Garrone, and their families. In addition, the deepest gratitude is extended to her amazing aide Lizette, and the entire staff at Good Shepherd Hospice.
Her family maintains the ever-present awareness that they are not alone in this fight against Alzheimers. In lieu of flowers, they ask to consider donating to the Alzheimers Association in memory of Terri and the millions of cherished lives lost to this battle.
The family will be holding a funeral mass this Saturday, July 18th, at 9 am. Services will be at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 175 Wolf Hill Rd., Huntington, NY 11746.
If you wish to attend, please note: face coverings are mandatory, and social distancing precautions have been instituted at the church.
In compliance with COVID restrictions, the family will not be holding a luncheon after the service but is planning a celebration of her life later this year.
