Virginia J. Peterson

Virginia J. Peterson, born on November 20, 1927, in Queens, New York, left this world on January 3, 2025, at the Quantum Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was a loving mother and devoted homemaker who spent her life as the rock of her family, embodying compassion, friendly warmth, and an infectious love for life.

Virginia was more than just a mother; she was an emblem of strength and resilience. Her outgoing personality charmed everyone she met, and she had a unique gift for storytelling that would capture the hearts of her listeners. Virginia's passion for life was evident in her love of music and dancing, where she often brought joy to family gatherings. Whether playing the piano by ear—a remarkable achievement considering she was never taught to read music—or sharing her favorite classic movies, she created a vibrant atmosphere of love and laughter around her.

She is survived by her cherished children: James Peterson, Diane Juers, and Judith Litwin. Each of them carries forward the memories and lessons taught by their beloved mother.  She has 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.   Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Joseph George Peterson, whose memory she held dear throughout her life.

Her legacy extends beyond familial bonds; she touched the lives of those around her with her friendly demeanor and undeniable zest for life. A service to honor her rich life will be held at Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home in Deer Park, NY. Visitation will take place on January 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM until 9:30 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 8:00 PM. On January 10, 2025, visitation will continue from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and her burial will take place at Calverton National Cemetery at 12:00 PM.

Virginia J. Peterson leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and enduring spirit, echoing through the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished forever, as she dances in the memories of her family, a lasting testament to a life exquisitely lived.
