William Joseph Spellman, Sr. of Orlando, Florida (formerly of Huntington, NY) passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 after 92 wonderful years. He was born Sunday, August 19, 1923 to William and Marie (Potter) Spellman in Hoboken, New Jersey where he grew up with his brothers, Edward and John and his sister, Rita who have all pre-deceased him.
William was a general contractor who owned his own successful construction company in Manhattan, Colin Construction.
He was a veteran of World War II proudly and honorably serving his country in the Merchant Marines.
Bill was a Catholic and a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Winter Garden, Florida.
Bill's many passions and hobbies included traveling, jigsaw puzzles and reading. He was a philatelic stamp collector, enjoyed gardening, music and fine wine.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, of 36 years and his children: William Spellman Jr., and Richard (Susan) Spellman along with his step-daughters: Roseanne (Thomas) Verrangia, Kathryn (Scott) Douglas, Lisa (Gary) Fezza. He was a loving grandfather to William Spellman, VII (Jessica) and Daniel Spellman along with many (step)-granchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy and her family will be accepting visitors from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Mangano Funeral Home on Friday, August 5, 2016.
HIs life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 6th at 10:45 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 35 N. Service Road, Dix Hills.
